Trauma-Informed Practice – What is Trauma?

In today’s episode, we look at ‘What is Trauma?’

This series of podcasts seeks to support everybody working in the schools sector to understand what we mean by Trauma-informed practice, to understand what good practice in this area looks like and to share practical strategies that can make a difference. We will consider the best available evidence from the fields of psychology, education research and the health and care sector to help us refine our approaches within the classroom.

In today’s episode we discuss ‘What is Trauma?’. Trauma results from an event, series of events, or set of circumstances that is experienced by an individual as harmful or life threatening. While unique to the individual, generally the experience of trauma can cause lasting adverse effects, limiting the ability to function and achieve mental, physical, social, emotional or spiritual well-being.

In this podcast, we will unpick this concept, examining how this may manifest itself in school-life.
