Trauma-Informed Practice – Attachment Theory

Group of students and teacher gathered around globe

In today’s episode, we look at ‘Attachment Theory’.

This series of podcasts seeks to support everybody working in the schools sector to gain an understanding of what we mean by Trauma-informed practice, to understand what good practice in this area looks like and to share practical strategies that can really make a difference. We will consider the best available evidence from the fields of psychology, education research and the health and care sector to help us refine our approaches within the classroom.

In this week’s episode we discuss ‘Attachment Theory’. Trauma could be overt abuse or neglect, or it may be less obvious—lack of affection or response from the caregiver. Attachment trauma may occur if there are traumatic experiences in the home while a baby is forming the bond, and it also may result from the absence of the primary caregiver, such as from divorce, serious illness, or death. In this podcast, we explore attachment theory and consider the impact it has on child development and our approaches in the classroom.
